My name is Tuan Nguyen and if my name hasn’t indicated it to you already, I’m of Vietnamese descent. Unfortunately, I haven’t place a strong focus in learning my native language so I only speak English and the very little Spanish that I retain from my three years of Spanish class. I currently and always have been living in El Monte, California and I haven’t seen much of the outside world. To illustrate the severity of this point, I haven’t seen an ocean in California until I was in my sophomore year of high school. The farthest I’ve been from home would probably be Oakland where we went to visit a few family members there. I have one older brother, a half-brother, and a half-sister last I checked, but I only talk to my full-brother since he lives in the same house and we share the same room.
I’m currently enrolled in Pasadena City College since I’ve led a lackluster high school lifestyle in El Monte High School. I had a majority of AP and “honors” classes throughout my high school life, but I never put 100% effort into any of the classes which led me to get mediocre grades such as Cs and Bs. So that gave me a limited option toward schools, but community college isn’t too bad and it’s cheap, so it’s all good. I’ve been sort of lagging the whole college experience quite a bit by not going to class and the like, so it seems my chances to get into a more prestigious college are getting slimmer. However, at the moment I don’t seem to care all that much about it and hopefully something develops I have some sort of revelation or something.
I’m overall quite a boring person and have nothing spectacular to talk about to demonstrate some levels of singularity. I enjoy playing games and watching movies and the like. I don’t watch much television since it all mostly sucks now (every teen angst show) or just stupidly confusing (Lost), but I do enjoy older shows such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Angel, Boy Meets World, Off Centre, Two Guys and a Girl, and some Asian dramas. I do currently watch Dollhouse and How I Met Your Mother. I also enjoy listening to music which takes a considerable amount of my free time. I listen to generally anything, but I hold many mainstream hip-hop and pop in great disdain since it gets annoying to listen to after a while. I do have a preference toward Indie artists such as Stars, Sonic Youth, Broken Social Scene, Feist, She & Him, Arcade Fire and so on. My favorite band would be Tegan and Sara and is one of the few groups that I’ve actually seen in concert, which was very worth the three days I went.
I’m pretty easy going so that makes me an easy person to get along with, however I’m usually not comfortable getting too intimate with anyone so I haven’t really formed any sort of best friend relationships in high school or during my time in college. However, I do seem to be much more comfortable talking to adults like teachers at my high school, who I occasionally keep in touch with every once in a while. I even spent time during lunch with my teachers rather than my peers since I enjoyed talking to them a little more and I needed some sort of parental figure at the time.
My screen name is Kenimic and is pronounced “ken ee mic” I guess. I got it from playing Everquest, which would be about when I was in 6th or 7th grade give or take. I had a great fascination with the Rurouni Kenshin anime and my name derives from the main character from that show. The “imic” portion was an attempt to make my name a little more medieval/fantasy like. So far no one has taken the name so it’ll lead me to believe that it’s pretty original so I stuck with it. It doesn’t resemble my name at all, but I still like Kenshin so I’ve kept it.
As for the blog itself, the basic use of it is just for me to keep track of some random thoughts or vent some of my frustrations without having to strain my wrist writing it down on paper. I don’t really expect them to be read, so I usually would type whatever comes to mind at the moment.
In a sum up, here’s a few qualities of me that define me:
- Lazy (for school/work anyway).
- Open minded.
- Enjoy playing games of various kinds (Favorite being Final Fantasy Tactics).
- Enjoy watching movies of various kinds (Favorite being Princess Bride).
- Enjoy listening to musics of various kinds (Favorite being Tegan and Sara).
- Enjoy to eat, despite my looks.
- I like gaining knowledge but hate reading. So that’s sort of funny.
- Likes to bowl (highest ever was 225).
- Likes to play basketball.
- Kind of moody at times, but usually friendly.
- Short.
